The prospect of travelling to New York City on your own may seem a bit daunting, it is a huge city and there are a LOT of people, by why not use that to your advantage? It’s really easy to make friends in NYC, just simply head to a bar and order a drink and have a chat with the person sat next to you. There are also plenty of hostels, which are great places to make friends.

New York is a fantastic choice for someone who maybe isn’t quite ready to put their whole life into a backpack and travel the world.

New York is a great city break and a good opportunity to get a taste of travelling solo.

Thailand

Thailand is a Southeast Asian country. It’s known for tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples displaying figures of Buddha. In Bangkok, the capital, an ultramodern cityscape rises next to quiet canalside communities and the iconic temples of Wat Arun, Wat Pho and the Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Kaew). Nearby beach resorts include bustling Pattaya and fashionable Hua Hin.

Thailand is a solo traveler’s haven. Most people who go backpacking tend to start out in Thailand and some never leave! The Land of Smiles is the perfect choice if you’re on a journey of self-discovery. There are plenty of workshops and classes to sink your teeth into as well as the whole country being a stunning natural wonder. Be sure to check out the staples in Thailand like Phi Phi and Krabi but do be aware of over tourism in these areas as well as Phuket.

Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country never to have been colonized by a European power. It is known for its beautiful nature, delicious mangoes and strict rules about conversations on its monarchy.

Toronto

Toronto, the capital of the province of Ontario, is a major Canadian city along Lake Ontario’s northwestern shore. It’s a dynamic metropolis with a core of soaring skyscrapers, all dwarfed by the iconic, free-standing CN Tower. Toronto also has many green spaces, from the orderly oval of Queen’s Park to 400-acre High Park and its trails, sports facilities and zoo.

There are plenty of great shopping opportunities in Toronto if you fancied treating yourself to something nice (or some delicious maple syrup), we’d also recommend a walking tour as they’re usually free (but please donate if you can) and it’s a great place to meet other people visiting the city. Why not take a trip down to the stunning Niagara Falls?

Toronto is known for being a Canadian metropolis with towering buildings, bustling streets, and a famous waterfront skyline dominated by the CN Tower, but that’s not all. Toronto is also famous for its ethnic and cultural diversity, its world-famous professional sports teams, and its competitive universities.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ capital, known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system and narrow houses with gabled facades, legacies of the city’s 17th-century Golden Age. Its Museum District houses the Van Gogh Museum, works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk. Cycling is key to the city’s character, and there are numerous bike paths.

Amsterdam is a fantastic city break that’s a little closer to home.

This friendly city welcomes in hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and is much more than cheap nights out and stag do’s! Take some time exploring the museum quarter, art buffs with love the Van Gogh museum and the modern contemporary art museum which is home to works from Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol. In the centre of Amsterdam, take some time to wander the intricate canal system, you never know what you may discover. The bars in the centre of the city are also great and well worth a visit but hostels are your best bet for making pals here.

Amsterdam is absolutely worth visiting for new and experienced travelers. I had a lot more fun in Amsterdam than I had originally expected (which is why you don’t believe everything you read in travel forums), and at this point, I would recommend the city to anyone coming to Europe.

California

California, a western U.S. state, stretches from the Mexican border along the Pacific for nearly 900 miles. Its terrain includes cliff-lined beaches, redwood forest, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Central Valley farmland and the Mojave Desert. The city of Los Angeles is the seat of the Hollywood entertainment industry. Hilly San Francisco is known for the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island and cable cars.

California is a great place to go travelling solo. The culture isn’t too far off of ours, we speak the same language and getting around North America is so easy. Perhaps one of the most diverse states in the USA is California.

California, the most populous state in the nation, is home to Hollywood’s stars, Silicon Valley’s technology, Napa Valley’s wines and ancient Redwood and Sequoia forests. The Golden State also is one of the country’s wealthiest and most socially and politically influential.

Vancouver

Vancouver, a bustling west coast seaport in British Columbia, is among Canada’s densest, most ethnically diverse cities. A popular filming location, it’s surrounded by mountains, and also has thriving art, theatre and music scenes. Vancouver Art Gallery is known for its works by regional artists, while the Museum of Anthropology houses preeminent First Nations collections.

Canada is incredibly, vastly different from province to province. Where you’ll find a sprawling city in Toronto, in Vancouver, you’ll have the benefits of city life but also will be within touching distance of some of the most beautiful National Parks in the world. These parks are well worth visiting if you’re an experienced hiker, if not, there are still plenty of beginner hiking trails to enjoy and they still provide some breathtaking views. If you’re an avid skier then definitely head over to Banff National Park, the slopes there are amazing and will make a nice change from the Alps if that’s your usual go-to.

Catering to any interest throughout the year, you can enjoy world class shopping, gourmet meals, outstanding live entertainment, sporting events, theatre, outdoor adventure, spectacular sights and attractions – it’s all waiting for you in Vancouver.
